Alvie “Al” Sylvester Ashcraft
Al Ashcraft, 80, a resident of Wynne, departed this life, Friday, January 8, 2021, at the CrossRidge Community Hospital. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of Odie Sylvestora Ashcraft and Mattie Lou Acuff Ashcraft.
Mr. Ashcraft attended Wynne High School before joining the U.S. Army. While in the Army Al served in the Infantry and later became a Medical Evac helicopter pilot. He earned a Bronze star with an Oak Leaf Cluster during his 20 + years of service during the Vietnam War. Al loved to fly and jump out of airplanes, and golfing. After retiring from the military, he loved spending time with Clara gardening, they absolutely did everything together for the last 30 years.
Mr. Ashcraft was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; Melvin Ashcraft, Louis Ashcraft, Thomas Ashcraft, James Ashcraft, and Billy Ashcraft, one sister; Teresa Halmes.
He is survived by his soul mate; Clara Henson of Wynne, two sons; Nicholas Ashcraft of Lafayette, Louisiana, Steven Ashcraft of Florida, one daughter; Rhonda Ashcraft of Florida, one brother; Donald Ashcraft of Hardy, two sisters; Oney Haynes of Wynne, and Diane Morrow of Paragould, and five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, January 13, at 2:00 p.m. at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery @ Birdeye with Military Honors.
