Carl Edward Blackwell of Wynne, passed away on July 10, 2020 at CrossRidge Community Hospital at the age of 86. He was born on April 16, 1934 in Morrilton to the late Benjamin Franklin and Bertha May “Marple” Blackwell.
Mr. Blackwell was a machinist, learning his trade while serving in the United States Army from December 1953 until November 1956. He achieved the rank of Corporal as a combat engineer in Germany. Carl served in the Reserves until December 1961. He was very proud of the time he served in the military and enjoyed talking about it. Carl retired in 1996 from Halstead Manufacturing after twenty plus years as Tool & Dye specialist. After retirement he stayed busy restoring antique gas engines and tractors, rebuilding and piloting his own plane, riding motorcycles in his younger days, and working in his shop. Carl was a member of the local VFW, The Rusty Wheels Engine Club, and for a time was an auxiliary Policeman for Wynne. He was very musically inclined playing a number of instruments to include the banjo, several different kinds of guitars, and the harmonica. Sometimes he would even pull out one of his guitars and entertain friends and family at some of the many gatherings that was held at his house. Carl especially loved his family very much and will be greatly missed by all who came to know him.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Benjamin and Bertha Blackwell, 4 brothers: Charles, Cecil, Cleo, and Chester Blackwell.
Carl is survived by his wife of 63 years: Pat “Schoonover” Blackwell of the home, one son: Barry Blackwell and wife Brandi of Wynne, one daughter: Debbie Meachum and husband Billy of Wynne, one brother: Calvin Blackwell of Texas, two sisters: Challis Eggert of Wisconsin, Catherine Kincade of Illinois, four grandchildren: Nicholas Meachum and wife Stephanie, Dalton Meachum, Connor Blackwell and Kayla White and husband Nathan, and three great grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Blackwell will be Monday evening, July 13, 2020 from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. at the East Baptist Church in Wynne. Funeral Services will be Tuesday morning July 14, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. also at East Baptist Church. Interment will take place in Vanndale Cemetery in Vanndale, Arkansas.
