Hershell Brawner Obituary

Rex Brawner, a lifelong resident of Wynne, went to be with his Lord, Tuesday, February 4, 2020.  He was born January 4, 1932, in Wynne the son of the late Claud E. and Ada Elizabeth McElroy Brawner.

Mr. Brawner was a 1950 graduate of Wynne High School and served 7 years in the National Guard. He married Miss Mary “Syble” Bridges on June 19, 1955.  Rex owned and operated Brawner Packing and the Ben Franklin Store. He managed the Coachman’s Motel for several years and sold Insurance, before going to work as a salesman for Clean Services out of Memphis. He retired in 1992 so he could enjoy vegetable and flower gardening, family gatherings and sports. He was a longtime, active member of the First United Methodist Church, where he served in many positions including; Sunday School Teacher, former President of the Association Board, Superintendent of the Sunday School Class, Head Usher, and was founder of the “Member of Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class”.  Rex loved his lord and his church first, but his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of his life.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Mary Wallin, three brothers: Amos Brawner, Claud Brawner, Jr. and Harrell Brawner.

Mr. Brawner is survived by his wife of 64 ½ years: Syble Brawner of the home, one son: Ken Brawner of Wynne, one daughter: Kay Wegert and husband Dennis of Wynne, one sister: Onalee Brawner of Wynne, six grandchildren: Haley (Josh) Pierce, Kendall Brawner, Hershell Brawner, Leslee Barnett, Mary Kay (Cody) Mullins, and Heather Ransom, four Great-grandchildren: Emily Pierce, Max Brawner, Taylor Barnett, Coy Barnett.

Graveside inurnment service will be held in Cogbill Cemetery, Friday, Feb. 7th at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Matt Carter officiating.
