Irene (Soto) Matthews

Irene Matthews, 60, a resident of Wynne, departed this life, Sunday, December 13, 2020, in Jonesboro.  She was born on April 25, 1960 in Lubbock, Texas, the daughter of Urbano and Maria Petra Sanchez Soto.

Mrs. Matthews worked as a CNA for absolute Care for about six years before retiring. She would help her friends take care of ailing family members, she was a very caring person, always willing to lend a helping hand. Irene had an open-door policy welcoming anyone into her home. Her family grew with each new friend her children brought home. She loved fishing, dancing, going to flea markets and eating Chinese, her favorite shows were Gunsmoke and the Walton’s. She loved playing with her grandchildren and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother; Pete Elzondo.

Survivors include her longtime companion; Alberto Leon, two sons; Ronnie Matthews and wife Kyra of Wynne, David Hale, Jr. of Moro, three daughters; Crystal Matthews of Wynne, Kristina Tacker and Greg Watlington of Wynne, Lisa Cameron and husband Bobby or Wynne, four brothers; Elias Jimenez, Israel Jimenez, John Jimenez and Urbano, Soto, Jr., two sisters; Noemi Jimenez and Cindy Perez all of Texas, twelve grandchildren; Katelyn Matthews, Madelyn Tacker, Elina Tacker, Izabella Hale, Patton Hale, Braxton Hale, Cheyan Matthews, Chloe Douglass, Hazelee Matthews, Draven Matthews, Amelia Dais and David Fallon.

Graveside services will be held, Thursday, 2:00 p.m. at the Parkin Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 12:00 until 1:00 at the Union Avenue Baptist Church in Wynne.
