James Rumsey Johnson, Sr., 70, a resident of Marianna, departed this life, Monday, February 23, 2026, at his home. He was born, November 12, 1955, in Sherman Texas, the son of Harold and Learline Conner Johnson.

Throughout much of his life, James faced the challenges of living with a disability. Despite these difficulties, he demonstrated remarkable skill as a mechanic, earning a reputation for his mechanical abilities. In his younger years, James participated in a demolition derby, proudly driving a 1957 Chevy Bel Air—a testament to his adventurous spirit and love of cars. James’s interests extended beyond cars. He found enjoyment in fishing and was an avid fan of all sports. Those who had the privilege of calling James a friend knew his loyalty and steadfastness; he was the kind of person whose friendship lasted a lifetime. Known for his fun-loving nature, intelligence, and sharp wit, James had a way of bringing laughter to those around him with his jokes and good humor. James will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, leaving behind cherished memories of his kindness, humor, and unwavering friendship.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Harold and Learline Johnson, one brother: John Bennie Johnson, two sisters: Sharon Johnson and Wilma Johnson.

Survivors include: one son: James (Lexie) Johnson, Jr. of Bald Knob, three daughters: Donna (Ricky Lee) Dunlap of Terrell, Texas, Tammie (Rachael) Johnson of Dallas, Texas, Angela Johnson Walker of Des Arc, two brothers: Duane Johnson of Wynne, Jack Johnson of Marianna, Cousin: Johnnie Conner of Marianna, Twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will hold a memorial service for James at a later date.
