James Dee Matlock of Vanndale, passed away on Friday, September 4, at Cross Ridge Hospital in Wynne at the age of 78. James was born on October 31, 1941 in Memphis, TN. to the late James Hubert and Millie Louise “Lawson” Matlock.
Mr. Matlock was a dedicated Christian and attended Cherry Valley Baptist Church as often as he was able. He was a huge football fan for the Patriots but would root for the Steelers to make Yvonne happy. One of his favorite pass times was riding and training horses, especially Tennessee Walking Horses. James loved animals, in fact the only one he would cook for was his sidekick and constant companion: his dog; Chopper.
He was preceded in death by his parents: James H. and Millie Matlock, daughter: Renee Matlock, brother: David Matlock, sister: Mary Hale.
James is survived by his wife: Yvonne of the home, son: James C. Matlock and fiancé Jennifer, daughters: Erica Doering and husband Tom of Springfield, MO, Rhonda Coy and husband Terry of Napa Valley, CA, Stacy Smith and husband Jody of Potts Camp, MS, Robin Matlock, brother: John Matlock, 6 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Graveside services for Mr. Matlock will be Tuesday, September 8th at Noon at the Vanndale Cemetery. There will be a short visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. at the cemetery before the service.
