Ray Allen Chestnut, 77, of Weiner, went to join his wife, Saturday, July 17, 2021. Ray was born, September 17, 1943, in Grubbs, the son of George and Ruby Raines Chestnut.
Ray was a 1962 graduate of Wiener High School and started his occupation at an early age. He helped provide food for the family by hunting and frog gigging with carbide lights. Next, he worked at the Esso station in Waldenburg, then worked on a farm. He later moved to Tuscaloosa, AL, where he worked in a paper mill. This is where he met and married Miss Peggy Thomas. After marrying Peggy, he started farming in Acron, AL and had catfish ponds and beautiful horses. Ray also worked as a heavy machine owner/operator. He stayed busy and worked hard all his life.
Ray’s love of hunting from his early years, stayed with him, he loved having friends from the Weiner area visiting and going deer hunting. In 2000 he relocated back home to Weiner, where he developed Chestnut Guide Service, as we all know, that was his passion, not just a JOB! He enjoyed hunting and was proud of the different ducks he had killed, but more that that, he loved the hunters being with him, setting at the table eating and telling the stories about the ones they ALMOST got. He considered most of Weiner “his friends” and loved visiting with everyone.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Peggy in April 17, 2021, daughters; Ruby “Rebecca” Chestnut and Martha Holladay.
Survivors include two sisters; Leola “Kitty” Chestnut Loyd of Newport News, VA, Brenda Chestnut Coley of Wynne, 2 nieces, four nephews, and special life long friends; Gloria Greeno and Paula Craft, and a host of other family and friends.
