Ray Stokes Obituary

Ray Paul Stokes of Fair Oaks, Arkansas went home to meet his Savior on September 1, 2019 at the age of 80 with his family by his side. He was born in Fair Oaks, Arkansas November 19, 1938 the son of Mr. Henry Bartholomew Stokes and Mrs. Lennie Mae (Ross) Stokes.
Ray and Wilma McCuan were united in marriage on May 16, 1960 and spent 59 years raising their children and loving all their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ray worked at Addison Shoe Factory in Wynne for 42 years where he was superintendent of the receiving department before he retired in January 2002. He was a member and deacon of Rolfe Chapel Assembly of God Church in Wynne. Ray loved to tell jokes and make you laugh; he always had a joke to tell and a smile on his face. He loved to tinker with his tractors in his shop that had a sign above it that read “Big Boy Toys “. He played Santa Claus to many kids for nearly 40 years until his health began to fail him. Ray was a man of a kind and gentle spirit. He always loved to be with his family, especially if it involved cooking BBQ or eating catfish.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson: Raymond Stokes, brothers: Clities Stokes, Eddie Stokes, sisters: Maebell Witcher, Margaret Bell, Jewell Jarrett, and Gladys Smith.
Mr. Stokes is survived by his wife: Wilma Stokes of the home, son: Danny Stokes and wife Sheri of Lakeland, Tennessee, daughter: Debbie Nelson and husband Robbie of Wynne, Arkansas, brothers: Freddie Stokes, Cecil Stokes, sisters: Dorothy Humphrey, his twin; Faye Canady, grandchildren: Candice (Shawn) Jackson, Brittany Stokes, Dana (Frank) Stone, Tiffany ( Wayne) Sutter, Daniel Stokes, Matthew Nelson, honorary grandchildren: Levi and Gracie Nelson, great grandchildren: Zack, Ashlee, Keylie, Tiernan, Axl, Blaze, and one on the way and numerous other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation prior to the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church located at 1900 North Killough Rd., Wynne, Arkansas. Interment will be in Woodman Cemetery in McCrory, Arkansas.
