Verlon Spencer, Sr. Obituary

Mr. Verlon Lee Spencer, Sr., 83, a resident of Wynne, departed this life, Friday, June 3, 2022, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was born, June 27, 1938, in Bay, the son of Robert Theodore “RT” and Patty Mae Blaylock Spencer.

Verlon was a 1956 graduate of Bay High School. After graduating, he married his 5th grade sweetheart, Miss Linda Mae Adams, on March 8, 1957. He was a farmer all of his life, working for himself and others. He got his pilot’s license in the 1960’s and enjoyed flying and cruising around locally. Verlon also liked watching the NBA & NFL. He owned Spencer Ford Tractor from 1972-1976, he was happiest when he was working and taking care of his family. He was the best husband to Linda and loved his children; family was everything to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Robert Spencer.

Mr. Spencer is survived by his wife of 65 years: Linda Spencer of the home, one son: Verlon Spencer, Jr. and wife Sherry of Wynne, one daughter: Verinda Spencer Johnson of Wynne, one sister: Della Nelms of San Antonio, Texas, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held, Friday, June 10, from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. in the fellowship Hall at the Wynne Church of Christ. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the church.

Cross County Funeral Service & Crematory had the honor of handling the arrangements for the Spencer family.
