Weldron “Sonny” Ray Wadkins, 75, a resident of Marion, departed this life, Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at his home with family by his side. He was born February 28, 1948, in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Billie Jack and Norma Jane Waters Wadkins.
At age fourteen he won the National Championship in roller skating. Sonny was a 1966 graduate of Southside Memphis High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 until 1976. After serving in the Navy, he went to work for the Railroad for the next 30 years, before retiring. He enjoyed woodworking, making pool cues, walking sticks and even made his wife a table. He will be missed for his sense of humor and kind ways.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law: Clint Dickson.
Survivors include his wife: Barbara Ann Dunavan Wadkins of the home, three sons: Timothy Wadkins and wife Gwen of Kearney, Missouri, William Wadkins and wife Allison of Jonesboro, Mark Dunavan and wife Kim of Little Rock, two daughters: Melissa Tullier and husband Brandon of Port Allen, Louisiana, Amy Dickson of Paragould, one sister: Betty Holland and husband Kenneth of Marion, fourteen grandchildren with one more on the way and two great-grandchildren.
The family will hold a memorial service Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Marion First Baptist Church, visitation will start at 10:00 a.m. at the church.
